Through five themes and over a hundred original objects, visitors can discover milling's history and techniques.

  • The BMMF's ground-floor is dedicated to milling machines, particularly those used to grind spices.

    Cleaner, roll-mill, bolter, etc. are all witnesses of ancient know-hows.

    A documentary also explains their origin and working.
  • Milling's history is about milling techniques' evolution : from millstone and prehistoric rubbing-stone to roll-mill, and finally the permanent circular movements' discovery, the basis of present-day milling.
  • Yet it is still a long way from grain to flour.

    Originally crushed and reduced to pap, grain grinding appeared later on. Grain's coat, is separated from the floury kernel and make quality flour for bread-making.

    Wheat was not the only crop to be milled!   Rye, oat, maize, spices... All these crops can be ground by mill stones.
  • Without energy no mill and no flour.

    The mill of Evere has typically followed the technical evolutions of the XIXth and XXth century.

    Steam engine succeded to wind, which was then overturned by electricity.

    This theme also considers every other energy source that has been used in milling.
  • For the time being, the exhibition on the building itself will take place in the room of temporary exhibitions. 

    The building construction started in 1841 and was classified in 1990. The mill is therefore one of Evere's oldest buildings….

    Generations of millers worked here before flour was replaced by spices. This beautiful tale will be told to visitors through panels and on screen.
